To the Editing Table

Today I finished the first draft of the novel. Yay! The next part is, of course, all about the editing.
There is some editing I can do right away.
Only after that, I think I need to let it sit for a month or so. I see it all coming, you know? So I’m not reading it so much as reminding myself.

Congratulations! I wish I could honestly say the hardest part is over, though…
Feeling positive about the old career, eh?
Positive that I was CRAYZEH to think this was going to be a simple and straightforward endeavor, yes. But surely I am some kind of freakish outlier, and the hardest part really IS over for you!
Dude. I don’t have, what do you call that thing?, a contract. I certainly hope the hardest part isn’t over, insofar as I hope someday to sell the beast.
(… Mainly because the writing of books is for me the fun! The hardest part is what comes after it’s ready to go.)
Congratulations! Is this the first novel of yours that has gotten to this stage?
I guess I was thinking statistically, that far more novels are never finished than are finished but never published. But I might be wrong about that. And while I agree that writing is the fun part, it is also the hard part, in the sense of you doing work and thinking hard and ignoring everything else in your life to get it done, and not just waiting on other people to make up their minds.
(The actual blows of rejection hurt, but they’re not hard the same way, IMO.)
@ACW – It’s the second full length, and I did a 3 day novel hallucination as well.
How I love that nervous, happy feeling when you read the first draft after the month (s) of sitting time.
Good for you…with drama and moving and back to school and bonking your head and everything! Awesome.
woo! Go YOU!
