Makes me thankful I don’t smoke any more, ’cause this is not fun. It’s occasional, but it’s violent.

Got to see the new Bond movie today, thanks to NetApp and XSM. It was fun. Bumped into people I used to work with. Still the same old folks. Some of that stuff I miss, but the wheeling and dealing types? No thanks. Always an angle.

The movie though: I gotta say I haven’t really followed the movies much since, oh, the 80s, maybe. Not that I don’t enjoy them, I just don’t really NEED to see them. Y’know?

I’m probably just getting too old, but a lot of the fighting just seemed *too* hectic. Like, I wasn’t sure whether it was just really fast editing, or that maybe it wasn’t well-choreographed fighting, so they weren’t showing us. The Bourne movies have very fast and hectic fighting in them, but they generally have a editing style that makes you think “Sure. That would work, it’s efficient, fast, and brutal.” No ten-minute slugfests, but no “judo-chop” and the guy collapses, *probably* dead. I’ve seen “real” fights, and I’ve seen contact brawling, and when there’s no rules, they’re over fast. Three solid hits, maximum. I always get put off by the hand-grabs with the cracking noises, but then the fight continues. Sorry, that dude’s fingers are freakin’ BROKEN.

But what do I know? Aside from being able to put my own shoulders back in after a dislocation, I’m no toughguy. Never been in a real fight. Evar. Got into a schoolyard scrap once, and thinking back, if the ground had been a little harder, me a little heavier, and that kid’s spine a little less bendy, things might’ve been very different for both that kid and myself. Turns out that even at the age of ten, I fought dirty. Like, ugly, unfair, maybe this is my last chance sorts of things. Maybe that’s my instinct, maybe it didn’t occur to me that what I was trying to do wouldn’t just knock the wind outta that kid, but instead break his spine. Maybe, dunno. I try not to think about it too much.

Broke a guy’s finger once while sparring, and that was an accident.

Where was I? Good movie, but I wasn’t going to rush out to see it. Even before kids, I wasn’t much of an “Oh man, GOTTA go see the new Bond.”

I’m like that with televised sports, too. I could really care less about most sporting events. Like many things, I get wigged out by the religiosity of it all. The rituals, the prayer, the thinking that yelling at the TV (or the rink, or whatever) will actually have any effect whatsoever. Sure, mob mentality works, but if it was just YOU, do you tink yelling WHOO! for two hours would do anything.

I’m watching The Skeleton Key tonight, not because it’s necessarily a GOOD movie, but because it looks like it’s probably a spooky movie, and not one of the new slasher gross-out genre. Kate Hudson is looking more and more like her mom (Goldie Hawn) as time goes on, minus the Bambi eyes. Minus the “Omigod, I’m squeeting high right now.”

God, remember that period when you couldn’t get away from Bird On A Wire with Mel Gibson? When was that? Oh yeah, the 90s. Seriously, it was on at least once a month on certain channels, I swear.

How come they don’t run Master Ninja Theatre any more? It used to be on Q13 out of Tacoma, I think, and it was AWESOME. Of course, I was 8 or something at the time, so what did *I* know about awesome?

Okay, the movie now consists of our heroine casting a spell to help an old man overcome what he thinks is a spell that’s been cast on him. That’s all fine and dandy, but if I start doing something, pretty much anything, that causes thunder to clap at the same moment the spell hits the peak, I’m DONE. Spell’s over. Sorry. Come back next week. We’ll do a puppet show.

Hell, if I make scrambled EGGS and a thunderclap happens, I’m probably not gonna eat ’em. Unless it’s a really spicy chilli. Maybe I’d eat lightning chilli.

Oh, and if something’s happening in the spooky old dark house, I’m putting on some PANTS before I go check what’s going on.

Oh, and would the folks making the television ads for soup that involve crackers falling from the roof and then causing the soup to freakin’ EX-PUH-LODE please cut it out? Cute effect, okay? I see that you’re going for the fireworks thing, I get that, okay fine. What you’re doing though? Isn’t about eating soup. It’s about the exact opposite of eating soup. Like, like, soup going the other way, in a column.

Not cool.

Further documentation of my own sheer awesomeness.
