Employee Of the Month was not the movie we were thinking of, nor was it a comedy, but it was… uh… entertaining. \u00a0We were thinking of the 2006 version http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0424993\/<\/a> but what we watched was released in 2004 (http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0362590\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Much darker. \u00a0Oddly and suddenly. \u00a0Found ourselves going “pff what?” quite a bit. \u00a0Couldn’t tell if some of it was improv of just jammed out. \u00a0Good, but wobbly. \u00a0Had timing issues, I would say.<\/p>\n

Funny thing happened tonight when the phone rang:<\/p>\n

Me: Hello?<\/p>\n

…<\/p>\n

Me: Hello?<\/p>\n

…<\/p>\n

Phone rang again.<\/p>\n

Me: Hello?<\/p>\n

She: Oh man, that’s hilarious. \u00a0I was calling for the sushi place, but figured I had a wrong number, but right before I hung up, I heard a voice, and it didn’t sound like the sushi guys, so I had to call back.<\/p>\n

Me: I uh, hah, yeah, I guess you’d-<\/p>\n

She: That’s so funny. \u00a0My phone’s all screwed up, and so I have to just guess at this stuff, and thought I had it right. \u00a0Funny. \u00a0I guess I’m drunk and not even drinking. \u00a0Well, I’ll talk to you soon, almost home now, and just wanted to grab some sushi, so I’ll call them now and see you soon.<\/p>\n

Me: Wait, wait – who *is* this?<\/p>\n

She: It’s {firstname}<\/p>\n

Me: {firstname}… {friend of mine, mostly online, see eachother about once a year, maybe}!<\/p>\n

She: Yeah, hi. \u00a0This is {someone I’ve never heard of}, right?<\/p>\n

Me: No, it’s {me}<\/p>\n

She: Oh, haha… I guess now you’ll have something to write on your blog about, which I’ve been reading, but can’t comment on, ’cause your blog hates me.<\/p>\n

…and so I did.<\/p>\n

Our good friend Deb’s going away party is tomorrow. \u00a0I keep thinking that we could cancel the party, and then it won’t count, and then she won’t go. \u00a0It’s selfish, but I do not have a lot of friends, and Deb’s one of the good ones. \u00a0She comes over every two weeks or so, and we drink, and talk about our lives, and riff off each other, and just… BE… y’know?<\/p>\n

Nuff ’bout that. \u00a0Don’t talk about it – it’s not happening. \u00a0Simple as that.<\/p>\n

Seems a lot of folks are leaving town. \u00a0We did. \u00a0I mean, moved from the core of downtown Vancouver to almost Richmond. \u00a0Arwen and I lived in the core before we met, and we’ve been together for 15 years (or maybe 16?) and I’d been downtown for a year or two before that, I think.<\/p>\n

My fingernail is coming back. \u00a0I think the two layers are fused together again, which is good, ’cause this exposed underbelly stuff is getting old fast, lemme just say.<\/p>\n

What else?<\/p>\n

Oh sweet, the guy who did the awesome “Accigone Accent-Removal Spray<\/a>” video is doing standup on the John Oliver show. \u00a0Glad to see him doing his thing. \u00a0Go, that guy. \u00a0Pete Holmes. \u00a0Here’s his site<\/a>. Go there.<\/p>\n

Had lunch today with my boss from when I first started at EA back in 2003. \u00a0He’s a good guy. \u00a0Nice to see him again. \u00a0Been a while. \u00a0Like, more than a year or so. \u00a0Appreciates folks who’re fast with the funny. \u00a0Was nice to talk to him a little about the whole idea of being and IT manager of some description. \u00a0I’m not used to it yet, but I think I’m slowly getting the hang of the IDEA that I’d be in charge of something other than the stuff on my own computer, or a small cluster of machines.<\/p>\n

Arwen’s making seal noises at me, and then whispering things like “Are you writing about me in your blog? Yes you’re writing about in your blog.”<\/p>\n

She’s threatening to not let me come to Disneyland with her.<\/p>\n
