The Teachable Moment, AKA WTF?
“El, my tutor says this book is set a long time in the past.” J loves to discuss the books he reads, and often comes in with a question or comment.
“Your tutor is right. How did you know?”
“It has First Nations people.”
“Um. What?” There has to be an explanation for THAT gem, right?
“It has First Nations people. Look, with the horses and stuff.”
“Oh! So you mean that the First Nations people don’t really use horses as much anymore?”
“No. My tutor says there are no more First Nations people.”
(Lesson derails completely)
