First Dance.

Halloween. Grade eight. I went as a guerrilla soldier. Camo. Gun. The whole thing.

I think my mom was kind of taken aback. I think she thought I wanted to be a slutty fairy or slutty devil or slutty cat or whatever. You know, the default slut costume that young teenaged girls seem to want to put on at Halloween.

But Mom didn’t seem to grasp that I wasn’t popular, so there was no point in being a slutty anything. No one would ask me to dance, so I didn’t have to look slutty.

Looking back, that is terrible logic. And a little embarrassing.

That’s a pretty cool costume idea for a grade 8 girl. I can’t remember what I went as.

I’m a bit shocked your mom would be okay with you being a sexy anything, given what I know about your mom.

Oh, she wouldn’t have been okay with it. But I have a feeling she’d prepped herself for a lecture she ended up not having to give.

    Did anyone dance with you?
I went to exactly one dance in jr high, and nobody danced with me. But my girlfriends and I did go out to Chi-chi’s later, for fried ice cream, so that was all right.
Little did we know that “chi-chis” is Spanish for “titties”.

I went to a grade eight dance, where I had a dance competition with Oliver and then was asked to slow!! dance by Chris to Chris de Burgh’s “Lady in Red”. Cuz he was Chris, and I was wearing red.

No one danced with me, Rachel. But I survived.

Fried ice cream. Must Try. It.

    Arwen, that is so cute!
