Sorta like claiming you were at Woodstock

This link will take you to Google’s 20 year archive of the Newgroups (UUNET).

Starts with the earliest post they’ve got (looks like it worked slightly before they thought it would):

Rusty is right (or is that “Rusty is Wright”?) – we have ALL in our .ngfile
so I tend to forget this. ALL.ALL may or may not work, but ALL certainly does.

and ends at the first posts about 9-11 (at 5:51am):

Plane crashed into World Trade Center near the top

I think my personal timeline kicks in around 1990, ’cause I remember reading about this on some of the FidoNet feeds on BBSs (thanks to Heart of Gold II bbs, Hi Alex!)

Dude, is that thing on (attached to the net)?

As seen in the Register today:

A simple Google Search of inurl:”view/index.shtml” would find Axis webcams.

Video surfers are using this knowledge to peek in on office and restaurant interiors, a Japanese barnyard, women doing laundry, the interior of an Internet collocation facility, and a cage full of rodents, among other things, in locales scattered around the world.

Okay, it’s official, I found something in Firefox I like

So, I’ve been largely ignoring the Firefox is Better folks, ’cause many of them were the same folks who were telling me to get a Mac, or that they prefer Win98 to WinXP, or to stop eating wheat and dairy in order to feel better about the world. All of that aside, I actually found something in Firefox that I will USE. RSS Feeds as bookmark groupings…

More Songs To Wear Pants To

Good god, this is awesome.

I was digging through the archives at Songs to Wear Pants To, and found this gem:

I AM THE FIRST FIFTY DIGITS OF PI 0:36

Please compose and record a song extolling the virtues of your Web site in which the lengths of the words can also be used as a mnemonic for at least the first 50 digits of pi. In other words, the first word has three letters, the second word one letter, the third word four letters, and so on.

[For your convenience, STWPT provides the first fifty digits of pi:

3.

5358979
3238462
6433832
7950288
4197169

I configured things properly.

Okay, now it should be the whole shebang on both sites.

Songs To Wear Pants To

The deal is this: people send requests for songs to the Songs To Wear Pants To site, and if you’re lucky, you might actually get one.

Personal Fave: The “I am Bjork” song (with Lyrics, perfect music, and a somewhat startling impression of her Icelandicness)

Most of the songs are a minute or less, so it’s not too painful for dialup folks, but for full effect, I suggest fatpipes.

There is a CD in the works, too. Yikes.

Thanks to Darren’s site for this one.

Hey, does this mean that I can write and it’ll sync now?

I guess we’ll just have to wait & see.

Why I’m not finished HalfLife 2 yet.

Somehow, I’ve managed to avoid the “Can’t talk: Halflife2” effect, but I think that’s mostly ’cause Ripley would be traumatized forever if he saw “daddy’s computer” display screaming burning dudes with thawed turkeys on their heads.

Blew the pluralization there. One head per burning dude. One turkey-monster per head. No substitutions.
