Just trying to remember where everything goes after a week of working by myself, and then a three day weekend. Went to the
Vancouver Aquarium with Sam & Deb, which was cool (even if they don’t have orcas any more, there’s still gigantic sea lions).
PHProjekt.com has this nifty plugin that claims to syncronize with Outlook (but only XP, or so it says).
Looking for s2k 090102, and I’ve found that filemirrors suddenly doesn’t seem to have the updates nearly as quickly as it used to. Maybe they’re blocking, or maybe there’s something else that finds those sorts of files faster…
Still diggin’ the new Coldplay album, but like the first one, it’s taking me a little time to get used to it.
I’ve got a new little Samurai Jack toy from Subway sitting on my monitor. He’s in a zenkutsu stance (left leg forward), and it looks like he’s got some sorta “bulge,” but I assure you, it’s his knee.

Did something goofy to my neck somehow. Can’t turn my head more than about 2/3rds in either direction to the side. Thinking about going to get some lunch. Thinking about having some sorta profound thought today, but it’s filled with conversations about whether or not we build a renderfarm first or the new Exchange 2000 server.
AcidPro 4.0 is out, and it can do some new things. I’m not sure whether I’d actually use any of the new features. Back to my previous thoughts about tool collection vs. tool use.
Yeah, my blood sugar level is down, and I’m feelin’ crappy. I’d better go get something to eat pretty soon.
On the lighter side, I’m looking forward to going to see the Frequency Zero screening tonight. Should be fun.

Two new & cool things today. Okay, so maybe more like
five.
Sonic Foundry’s Acid 4.0 Pro bld 215 does some pretty neat stuff, from what I’ve seen, but will it still keep me from going over to Propellerheads’ Reason? I’m thinking that since I’m still not a Midi user (even though my DX27 is still sitting under my desk), I might continue to hold off. Hard to say, really.
Creo’s Six Degrees – Looks like a Mac team tried to make Outlook 2000 more friendly. I can understand why you’d want to do that, but there’s a number of apps that can give you most of the same functionality, without having to park this monster on top of Outlook. Of course, what do I know? I’m still using NEO for my email client.
NetJuke looks pretty squippy, if they ever make a Windows-based server. Freeware MP3 hosting & streaming. Could be interesting. Could also be very very ugly. :)
We’re trying to get the new Exchange 2000 server up and running, but of course, there’s all sorts of things we need to worry about so we don’t do anything irreversible in the process.
I’m going to be revamping the tape backup system today so we can (we hope) manage to get something together that doesn’t require six days between backups. Should be interesting (hah!).
Ruby – Short-Staffed at the Gene Pool is pretty squippy. I *think* this is the same Ruby that did the “Now I smell of Paraffin” track from the mid 90s. Ogre of Skinny Puppy is doing some work with this set, so there’s some weirdness that’s kinda yummy.
Lina‘s “I’m Not The Enemy” was on a soundtrack I heard recently, and it gave me chills. Yum.
Okay, get to work already.

Oh BOY did I ever just screw up my computer. Seems stable, but I just installed
Aston, which is a beautiful desktop screwer-upper. Very pretty. Probably turns my 550Mhz machine into a 450Mhz when it’s running in “full mode” Still, kinda groovy.

Going to go see
Scratch this Sunday at
Tinseltown.
Rebuilding my work machine, which is always fun.
Supposed to be getting together with DJ Clarence some time this weekend (gotta clean up the audio I pulled from the Spike Jones album).

Wow, so now the web cam actually works for more than a few hours at a time. What a concept. I had to finally just pull the entire machine apart completely, and then put it all back together again before it’d talk to me at all. Must’ve shorted something out. Glad to see
this board working again.
Sothink SWF Decompiler is pretty cool. Finally got to pull apart the Weebl & Bob samples so I can start making some music with them (and send them to Weebl, of course.)

Ernie Cline is a very angry man. He’s also a huge nerd. Go on, boy. Not work-friendly, but pretty freakin’ funny. His diagrams are pretty squippy too…

Actually, I did manage to get
The Home Gallery working without incident. Now, if only I could figure out how I managed to get that working at home, ’cause I want to get
NetJuke working, ’cause that, I’d probably use even MORE than the Gallery App.

Just gotta dig the fact the the description is a displayed variable. Something kinda oldschool about that, huh?

What are YOU doing?
I’m installing Windows 2000 Pro on a workstation for a new artist starting next week (or maybe it’s the week after that?) and listening to SolidSteel on streaming audio. I’m also testing out the HelpDesk made by OneOrZero. Pretty hot, really. We’ve tweaked out the graphics (thanks to Andy Lang for that) so it looks like something somewhat official. Nice.
Oh yeah, and the cam is on here at work.

See? It’s on. (at least, it was, once).
So here’s the big question:
What am I going to use this Blog for? I mean, c’mon. What have I actually got to say about anything?
That’s the cardinal rule of having a personal web site, isn’t it? If I had a radio show, what would I do on that? Maybe I’d just kinda make silly noises with a keyboard and some samples for a while.
Speaking of which: I’ve been sorta interested in playing around with the Ableton Live 1.51 software, ’cause it looks like a pretty neat idea. Normally, I just use Sonic Foundry‘s looping and remixing tool, Acid 3.0g
So that’s all I’ve got to say for today, I guess. Maybe a little more later, ’cause the Win2k Pro install is just about finished.
Bye.
