- Listening to the new Franz Ferdinand, and the big hit single Ulysses has the vocal moved forward by about a 16th beat. Was that intentional? #
Edit/Update: So, this was really bugging me, because the album version vocal seemed so “slushy” compared to the single I downloaded a month or so ago. I wasn’t entirely sure about the veracity of the album version I had, so Ripley and I wandered down to the HMV at Robson & Burrard yesterday and listened to the track on a listening post. Same thing. Sounded like their singer was off a bit, y’know?
So I threw both tracks into Sony’s Acid 7.0 and did a quick slide edit to put the music tracks together as closely as I could bother, and aside from a little flam on the percussion that isn’t there normally, I think I got them pretty tight. Here’s an MP3 of BOTH tracks, and you’ll notice a distinct echo/doubling of the vocal that gets more and more pronounced as the track progresses. Frankly, I kinda dig it, ’cause it gives the track this weird dizzy feel to it.
